A new report by Ziprecruiter, an online job board, names Detroit as one of the top 20 cities for tech jobs in the nation.
It was featured this week on Time.
Detroit is the 16th fastest growing market, with hot jobs including Project Manager, Software Engineer, Quality Engineer, Systems Engineer and Application Engineer.
“The tech industry is no longer bound to the coast,” says ZipRecruiter’s Chief Economic Adviser, Cathy Barrera told Time. “As a result, we’re seeing the tech industry expand out of the major metropolis areas, and into smaller regional cities that have since flown largely under the radar.”
Not only does Detroit have a lot of jobs available in the tech sector, but overall, the cost of living in our region is lower than many, especially the stereotypically “hot” cities like San Francisco and New York City.
According to the report, Detroiters in tech jobs have a median early career pay to be $59,600; and later on that grows to $94,400.
Detroit’s speed of tech job growth is ahead of Tampa, Florida; Providence, Rhode Island; Seattle, Washington and Chicago, Illinois.
At the top of the list was Huntsville, Alabama. They saw over 300 percent growth in tech jobs from 2016 to 2017.
