Detroit’s entrepreneurial scene is growing and a big part of that growth, according to a report from HowMuch.net (via Visual Capitalist), is women-owned businesses.
The Motor City ranks second in the United States behind Memphis, Tennessee for the percentage of growth of women-owned businesses over the last decade.
Detroit’s women owned businesses grew 121.4% on revenues of $25.1 billion, significantly more than doubling their presence.
Memphis only bested our growth rate slightly at 122%; but their total revenues were just $6.1 billion. Behind Detroit came Charlotte, growing 105.4%.

In raw numbers of women-owned businesses added, Detroit came in fourth adding 140,000 businesses, behind New York City, Los Angeles and Miami. Detroit and Miami were the only two cities to be in the top five slots on both lists.
