On a rainy Tuesday morning, about 200 fast food employees and political activists gathered outside of a McDonalds in support of a national movement to raise the hourly rate of fast food workers to $15 an hour.
The nationwide rally is the combined effort of a group called, Fight for $15, who organized similar rallies in 270 cities across the country, marking the largest collective effort of demonstrations since their start three years ago.
Leaders of the movement timed the rallies in advance of next year’s presidential election, hoping the they will catch the eye of presidential candidates as they ramp up for campaign season.
A second rally is scheduled for this afternoon at 4 p.m. today at the Coleman A. Young Municipal Center, located at 2 Woodward Avenue in Detroit.
