The end of the school year is right around the corner, which means there will be a whole new class of high school graduates. Most of those students will be moving on to college in the fall.
Do you know a graduating high school senior who has already been accepted to a college or university? If so, you should tell them about The Michigan Youth Appreciation Foundation’s scholarship.
Applications for the scholarship are currently open until Friday, April 28, 2017
The Michigan Youth Appreciation Foundation was started by Ed Deeb and the Metro Detroit Youth Day organizers in 1991 as a way to inspire metro Detroit students to go to college. To date the organization has awarded over 1,500 scholarships.
“We wanted to inspire our youth to do the best they can,” said Deeb founder of the Metro Detroit Youth Day. “So they can go to school, get good grades, and go to college. Hopefully they will come back to the city of Detroit.”
The scholarship is open to graduating seniors in Macomb, Oakland, and Wayne County. The student must be accepted to a 4 year university or college, or a 2 year community college.
The MYAF awards between 100 and 125 students up to $1,000 for the first year of college.
You can find the application and all of the criteria on the MDYD website.
The scholarships will be handed out at the 35th annual Metro Detroit Youth Day on Wednesday, July 12.
