I love the east side of the city.
My grandmother and great aunt lived just blocks from where this new pop-up bookstore, 27th Letter Books, just opened.
On my mom’s side, the family grew up near Gunston and Gratiot. And I’ve lived at times on the east side, as well.
27th Letter Books were the winners of the Comerica Hatch Detroit contest and before their permanent space has been found, they’ve set up shop in a neat old retail storefront on Van Dyke at Agnes that formerly was home to Paramita Sound.
They carry books focusing on great writing and underrepresented voices. Their curated selection evolves over time based on community feedback.
Scroll down and you’ll find a bunch of pictures of the store.
In the player above in this episode of your Daily Detroit is a conversation with the owners, Drew and Erin Pineda.
We talk about their journey to get set up in Detroit, books and more.
