Ford Truck And Horse Trailer Worth $75,000 Donated by DTE Energy Foundation

The Detroit Police Department’s Mounted Police Division is one of our country’s oldest established law enforcement divisions, dating back to 1893 when it was founded. The Division, aside from its legacy, has seen an unfortunate decline in officers and horses available.  Once the mounted police had five barns, 80 officers, and more than 60 horses, but now they only operate from one barn in Palmer Park and have five horses. These officers continue to patrol year round, performing their duty an...

The Grass Station To Give Back With Party And School Supply Drive This Weekend

When medical marijuana became legal in the state of Michigan in 2008, it was received with mixed reviews. One point of contention that remains is the question of what impact dispensaries – the distributors of medical marijuana – might have on the communities in which they exist. The Grass Station opened its doors in June and will host a Labor Day block party at their location at 2930 East Grand Boulevard to show that dispensaries can be a positive asset to a community. With the help of Pla...

The Alger Theater Launches Crowdfunding Campaign To Build Community Space

Detroiters are no strangers to seeing former jewels of the city come crashing to the ground, or simply fade into obscurity and fall apart. One of the shining examples of this narrative is the Alger Theater, located at 16451 East Warren Avenue in the MorningSide neighborhood of Detroit. We reported several months ago that the theater was hosting a brew and view to help raise funds to renovate the space. Well, while that event was a success, the Friends of The Alger are ramping up for another...

Michigan Listed As One Of The Top 5 States For Beer In America

There’s no doubt about it, Michiganders love their brews. And we have good reason to. With such well known options like Bell’s Oberon, Founders or Atwater to the lesser-known like the excellent Ninja Chicken by Falling Down Beer Company or the wonderful small batches Batch Brewing Company produces (along with many other great producers) it’s not a surprise to us where Michigan places on the list at number four, only behind Colorado, California and Oregon. Says Yahoo! Travel/Thrillist: [quo...
