Demand for developers and technical talent is skyrocketing, and so is the interest in schools and educational programs.

With that in mind, “The Iron Yard” is coming to town. They bill themselves “as one of the largest and fastest-growing code schools in the world,” and today announced the opening of a new campus in Detroit. They currently have 20 locations in the United States and United Kingdom.

Starting in March, the Detroit campus will offer courses in Front-End Engineering and Back-End Engineering in an immersive, 12-week format designed to prepare students to enter the workforce as junior programmers after graduation. The first full-time courses begin March 14, with application now open.

Why Detroit?

“Detroit is quickly gaining a national reputation as a hotbed for tech jobs and innovation,” said Eric Dodds, co-founder and CMO at The Iron Yard. “With more than 600 junior-level programming jobs posted in the last 90 days alone, our goal is to help meet Detroit’s demand for a talented tech workforce by preparing a stream of creative, professional software developers.”

The first Front-End Engineering and Back-End Engineering courses in Detroit are scheduled to begin on March 14 and enrollment is now open. Prospective students can apply here.

Future programs offered through The Iron Yard’s Detroit campus may include Mobile Engineering, Data Science or Design.

Tuition runs in the neighborhood of $12,000 for a 12-week course, according to their website. Financing and some scholarships are available, and their goal is that upon graduation students are workforce ready to get a job. There are $1,000 “diversity scholarships” available to students who are traditionally underrepresented in technology.

Leading up to the first full-time course, The Iron Yard will be offering free “Crash Course” workshops designed for those interested in software development and learning more about The Iron Yard.

Also, there will be an “open house” to meet their Detroit campus director Jordan Skole and learn more about the classes and culture for those interested at the Bamboo Detroit co-working space, which is located at 1442 Brush Street in Detroit on February 10 from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m.
