Just 48 hours after launch, Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan’s ‘Grow Detroit’s Young Talent’ (GDYT) initiative has secured an astonishing 1,200 registrations for the popular programs upcoming season, according to officials.
GDYT is a summer employment initiative, which last year matched 5,600 Detroit youth with a variety of summer a employment opportunities.
The program was redeployed by the Mayor on Tuesday with a lofty target of finding 8,000 job for Detroit students this summer, which will be made possible thanks to significant support for the program from dozens of members of the business and non-profit community.
So far 1,289 registrations have been completed on the gdyt.org website, with an additional 1500 that are in process or saved for later completion. For teens without computer access, sign ups are also possible by attending one of two registration events happening from 10a-2p this Saturday at the following locations:
- Historic East Lake Baptist Church (12400 E. Jefferson)
- Triumph Church (2760 E. Grand Boulevard).
