The Escape the Room trend is sweeping the country, and Detroit’s about to get one of the best in the business. On TripAdvisor, the same ‘Escape the Room’ is ranked in #1 fun & games in New York City and it’s coming to Detroit.
Escape the Room, a live-action game, announced Tuesday that the company has opened its first Michigan location at 1030 Randolph in downtown Detroit in the retail space of the Brush Street Garage, owned by Bedrock Real Estate Services.
What is “Escape the Room?” The 60-minute Escape the Room game challenges up to 10 players to work together and race against the clock, identifying and solving a series of increasingly challenging riddles in order to find the keys that will get them out of a locked room. There are three different rooms or “scenarios” featuring different sets of clues for groups to solve. The interactive game was developed by an all-star team of puzzle designers, theme park engineers and set designers using state of the art technology.
The new venue, is designed for team building, families, dates, parties, or groups of friends. It’s located on Randolph between Monroe Street and E. Lafayette Boulevard within walking distance to the Greektown Entertainment District, the soon to be renamed JACK Greektown Casino.
“Escape the Room is for people looking for a different experience. It’s not the usual dinner and a movie kind of night – you’re the one driving the action,” said Victor Blake, Founder and CEO, Escape the Room in a statement. “Detroit is such a great sports and gaming city and Detroiters are always up for new and exciting challenges. This kind of landscape is the perfect backdrop for our first Michigan location.”
Founded in Manhattan in 2013, Escape the Room has quickly grown into one of the country’s largest producers of live-action games. Over the past few years, hundreds of thousands of players have put their problem-solving skills to the test at locations across the country, including New York City, Boston, Philadelphia, Scottsdale, Houston, Atlanta, Washington DC, Milwaukee and now Detroit.
“Escape the Room is another destination attraction that adds a fun new twist to the many unique entertainment, dining and retail experiences now available in downtown Detroit,” said Dan Mullen, Executive Vice President of Bedrock Real Estate Services. “As an increasing number of high-tech companies and businesses locate in the Central Business District, and people of all ages visit the city in droves, the demand for group outings and family friendly activities is at an all-time high. Escape the Room adds a one-of-a-kind adventure everyone will enjoy.”
Escape the Room is targeted for weekend fun, being open Thursdays from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., Fridays from 6:00 p.m. to midnight and Saturdays and Sundays from noon to 10:00 p.m. Rooms can be rented for special events outside of normal business hours. Tickets are $28 per person.
It seems as every day we’re getting a note about something new opening in Bedrock land – yesterday, it was a comic book shop and with this, we’re two for two. Let’s see if the Gilbert folks can make it three-for-three with new developments this week, eh?
