25 Detroit business are getting $300,000 in matching grants to improve the street appeal and exteriors of their businesses.

Motor City Re-Store, a program started last year by the city of Detroit and the Detroit Economic Growth Corporation, awarded the grants Thursday.

A matching grant means that businesses will have to put in an equivalent amount of their own money. Grants are awarded for both design and construction.

These second round of winners are in 20 of the city’s neighborhoods and include a wide range of businesses including restaurants, an auto parts supplier and even a furniture store.

76% of them are minority-owned and about a quarter are woman-owned, according to the city.

The program provides about $2 million annually in matching grants. Motor City Re-Store is accepting applications for their next round through April 2.

Business owners and landlords must apply jointly for 50 percent matching grants up to $25,000.

Multiple businesses applying as a group are eligible for 75 percent matching grants.
