Oktoberfest season has snuck up on us and we’re not about to let you miss out on any of the fun. Now craft beer in Detroit is like ambrosia to the Greek Gods, so you best believe when it is time to celebrate beer, we are going all the way. Every Detroit area brewery has its own unique traditions, so attend all of them. Prost!
1. Atwater In The Park
Atwater In The Park’s Oktoberfest is a must-go if you love football. Crack open a cold one and cheer for Michigan (9/12), MSU (9/12) and the Lions (9/13) as they play on the big screen projector Atwater In The Park will set up. Save your appetite for the $16 German Pig Platter that will feature three different types of pork with sauerkraut. Live music and the Detroit Bavarian Dance Group will also be performing.

2. Batch Brewing Company
We never forget our first time, so you better show up for Batch Brewing Company’s 1st annual Oktoberfest party. They will be pouring their German-style beer and serving German food that reminds them of München , where the festival originated. There will be live music playing throughout the day, you can buy a stein, and if you get $1 off beers if you wear dirndl or lederhosen at their event. Seating is extremely limited so it is highly recommended buying a reserved ticket, which are going for $30. Buy the tickets here. Act now, tickets are almost sold out.
3. The Dakota-Inn Rathskeller
You have to go to The Dakota-Inn Rathskeller Oktoberfest just to do the chicken dance while wearing the chicken hat. These little felt hats that look like a chicken are handmade by the boss’ wife and his sisters. They are sold for $10, with proceeds going to Detroit-area charities. The event is indoors and it is spread out over seven weekends, so there is no excuse for missing this one. $3 admission.

4. Oktoberfest at Rochester Mills Beer Co.
There is a lot of stuff Rochester Mills Beer Co. packed into their Oktoberfest. It kicks off with the company’s Ceremonial tapping of their Seasonal Celebration Lager inside the brewpub at 7pm. It is definitely a family-friendly event with free admission for children 18 and under (with paid adult). The Autumn extravaganza also includes Bavarian dancing, live polka music, carnival games, moonwalks, pony rides, petting zoo, clowns, as well as balloon and tattoo artists for the kids. There is the sauerkraut-eating, brat-eating or stein hoisting competitions for the adults. Admission is only $5 for adults and is good for both days.
