The Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan Foundation awarded more than $600,000 in grants to 14 organizations around Michigan. Five Metro Detroit organizations have received grants from the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan Foundation.
The grants fell under three categories, Community Health Matching Program, Physician Investigator Initiated Programs, and Physician Investigator Research Award Program.
“These grant recipients are affecting positive change across a wide range of underserved communities throughout our state, from addressing the growing opioid epidemic to the need for behavioral health services for veteran families,” said Audrey Harvey, vice president and CEO of the BCBSM Foundation.
Four of the grant recipients fell in the Community Health Matching Program. The grant money will go towards developing, testing, or validating new techniques and programs to address the needs of the community members.
Affirmations Lesbian and Gay Community Center received $35,000 for the LGBTQ Learning Labs: Health Care Professional Training.
Starfish Family Services received $50,000 for the Starfish Family Services Head Start Trauma.
YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit received $50,000 for their Healthy Hearts-Blood Pressure Self-Monitoring Program.
Focus: HOPE received $25,000 for a Doula and Breast Feeding Services.
The final recipient is part of the Physician Investigator Initiated Program, which will use the grant money to conduct research on a specific topic.
Wayne State University’s Department of Emergency received $75,000 for the research of Improving Outcomes and Follow-Up of Low Risk Chest Pain Patients Presenting to the Emergency Department.
The remainder of the grant recipients are located in Ann Arbor, Lansing, Grand Rapids, and Battle Creek.
