It might be hard to believe, but it was 15 years ago that the movie “8 Mile” hit movie theaters and helped take the career of local rapper Eminem to another level, adding film to his artistic portfolio in an important way.
To celebrate that 15th anniversary Shady Records are bringing the award-winning film back to the big screen at Bel Air Luxury Cinema that’s located on, of course, 8 Mile.
There will be a red carpet premiere at 7 p.m. on November 8, and tickets will be just $8. The proceeds are going to benefit The Verses Project, a branch of the Community Music School (CMS) – Detroit.
This neat program works with the Michigan State University School of Music as an innovative approach to engaging urban youth by teaching critical literacy skills through the art of songwriting and music production.
Tickets for this special premiere of Eminem’s semi-autobiographical flick are $8 each and will go on sale online only at 12 p.m. on Wednesday, October 18 at www.shadyrecords.com and www.belairluxurycinema.com.
Directed by the late Curtis Hanson, 8 MILE also starred Academy Award winner Kim Basinger, Mekhi Phifer, Omar Benson Miller, Anthony Mackie and the late Brittany Murphy.
Also, Shady Records, to raise more dollars for The Verses Project, is putting out a limited-edition time capsule of goods & gear inspired by 8 Mile to celebrate the 15th Anniversary of the movie. Details on that will be available in November, according to the label.
Bel Air Luxury Cinema is located at 10100 W. 8 Mile Rd. in Detroit.
