There is a new shop opening downtown this weekend on Woodward called Detroit Is The New Black. Calling it a shop doesn’t seem right, as that simplifies what it really is. DITNB is a co-op store that also serves as an art gallery.
The space is much more than a standard store. It will be used as an incubator for businesses that are interested in the growing market. There are numerous businesses showcased in the store located on the 1400 block of Woodward.
Roslyn Karamoko is the owner of Detroit Is The New Black, a clothing brand that is made in Detroit. The company moved production to the Ponyride space in March of this year.
The shop currently features goods by DITNB, Tracy Reece, Will Leather Goods, Douglas & CO, The Lip Bar, Lazlo, Nino Bertera, and an art installation by Leon Dickey.
The plan is to rotate contributors so that there is always new things for people to experience.
The store officially opens on Sunday, July 24. The hours will be Monday through Saturday 11:00 AM- 7:00 PM and Sunday 11:00 AM-6:00 PM.
Detroit Is The New Black is located at 1426 Woodward Avenue in Detroit.
