Do you love Applebee’s? Soon, you will be able have all of 4-Cheese Mac & Cheese with Honey Pepper Chicken Tenders or Double Crunch Shrimp you want and stay inside the D.
The first Applebee’s in the city of Detroit will be located at 8 Mile and Woodward near the new Meijer. Assuming permit approvals, construction will start in June.
It will include all of the chain dining list items, they say: High-rise ceilings, an expanded bar area, more televisions, and larger windows to provide more natural light, as well as decor and painted murals specific to the City of Detroit community.
It also means, importantly, more jobs. There will be more than 100 salary and hourly-level employees. It’ll be owned by TEAM Schostak Family Restaurants (TSFR) who are among the biggest players in the chain restaurant game in Michigan. TSFR’s portfolio includes 65 Applebees locations, 60 Burger Kings, four Del Tacos and 11 joint ventures with Olga’s Kitchen. In December of last year, TSFR also announced its plans to bring 25 locations of the Seattle-based MOD Pizza to Michigan during the next five years.
“TSFR is proud to expand the Applebee’s brand—which is built on the concept of a neighborhood grill and bar—to the residents of this City of Detroit neighborhood,” said Mark Schostak in a statement. “As a locally based restaurant owner and operator, we are proud of our Michigan roots and are strongly committed to the success of our state by employing more than 6,000 individuals statewide in our more than four restaurant concepts. Bringing a nationally recognized and family oriented brand to the city was the right next step for us to truly become part of the City of Detroit community and contribute in a meaningful way.”
