Union Calls For State Park Rangers To Be Armed

Over the weekend on Belle Isle, Michigan State police say that a female park ranger was assaulted while she was locking up some restrooms. New "Out Of The Crate" Gallery In The Detroit Institute Of Arts Opens July 14

The Detroit Institute of Arts will be displaying nine new pieces of art in its “Out of the Crate: New Gifts and Purchases” gallery on July 14th. The gallery was created at the beginning of this year to show off the new artwork the museum has collected. The DIA rotates the gallery every six months. City Of Detroit To Open Six Cooling Centers Over The Weekend Due To Heat Wave

As we said earlier this week, a heat wave is coming this weekend. In response, the city of Detroit will open six air-conditioned recreation centers on Saturday and Sunday. Artists Invited To Submit Proposals For Ofrendas Exhibit At The Detroit Institute of Arts

The Detroit Institute of Arts is seeking proposals from the public to help it celebrate the traditions of Dia de Muertos or Day of the Dead this fall. The DIA is teaming with the Mexican Consulate of Detroit on an open call for ofrenda altars. Ofrendas are offerings that honor the life and memory of lost loved ones. Royal Oak Moves Forward On Its Plans For Its Own Bus System

Royal Oak, a city of nearly 60,000 people, is continuing to move forward with plans for its own bus system. Dubbed “ROGO,” the system would be contracted with the suburban SMART bus system. It would entail 14 dedicated buses for the nearly 12 square mile city. Service could start as early as next summer, if the City Commission accepts the recommendation by Royal Oak’s Transit Task Force. Voters would then be asked to approve funding in November. Adient Will Not Be Moving Downtown After All

While Ford is making a big splash about its plans to come into the city, another automotive company is now pulling back on its plans to move to downtown Detroit. The seating supplier Adient says it has decided to scrap plans to move its corporate headquarters and 500 employees into the Marquette Building on Congress Street over concerns about the cost of renovation. Detroit Wing Company Opened Monday Inside MGM Grand Detroit

The Detroit Wing Company has opened its third location inside the MGM Grand Casino hotel on Monday. It is located in the Breeze Dining Court. This is the third location for the Eastpointe-based restaurant and the first location inside the city of Detroit. HUD Says Oakland County Has Discriminatory Housing Practices

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development is accusing Oakland County of pushing discriminatory housing policies in how it divvies up federal housing money. In a 20-page letter addressed to county Executive L. Brooks Patterson, HUD says Oakland County steered $171 million in housing aid since 1989 to homeowners at the expense of renters, who are more likely to be non-white. This New Law Could Make Bicyclists In Michigan Safer

If you’re a bicyclist in Michigan, you might be getting a new law that’s in your favor. The Michigan legislature has passed a package of bills that would mean motorists would have to pass at least three feet to the right or left of a bike. If it is not practical to do so, the motorist will have to pass at a safe distance at a safe speed. The bills are expected to be signed into law by Governor Rick Snyder. Currently there is no law mandating a passing distance between bicyclists and cars....
