On Wednesday, the Greater Wayne County Economic Development Corp. announced that roughly 160 LED lights will be installed in the Avenue of Fashion district in northwest Detroit.
The installation is the result of a $106,000 grant from the group, who believes that the improvement to the neighborhood will help improve safety and drive more traffic to the businesses there.
The project will be managed by University Commons. The lights will be manufactured by Detroit America’s Green Line LLC and installed by Detroit Power Systems LLC.
This is the second noteworthy improvement to the area of late. Recently, the Public Lighting Authority installed 50 new street pole lights in the area. Together with the LED lights, the stretch of road should see a reduction in crime, and an increase in foot traffic.
The project is set to finish near Christmas.
