Earlier this year, we brought you word that the long-vacant Big Buck Brewery was going to become a fowling venue and bar.
Part of that remodel is the removal of the giant, 45-foot tall beer bottle. We’re getting word from Powers Distributing that they have bought the bottle for an undisclosed price – and although they haven’t settled on plans, have an idea on what they’re going to do with it.
Detroit has a history of giant icons such as the famous Garland stove that sat outside of the State Fairgrounds until it’s untimely demise thanks to a lighting strike, the Uniroyal Tire, and the giant tiger outside Comerica Park.
“Powers Distributing has more than 75 years of experience distributing beer in Oakland and Macomb counties and manages more than 85 brands across the two counties.” said Gary Thompson, chief operating officer, Powers Distributing. “The Big Buck Brewery beer bottle has been a metro Detroit staple for many years and Powers is proud to keep its history alive locally.”
Per their statement:
Plans for the bottle’s restoration are still under discussion, but since Miller Lite is such a strong supporter of the metro Detroit community including sponsorships of the Detroit Red Wings, the Detroit Tigers, the Detroit Free Press Marathon, etc., Powers hopes to incorporate the Miller Lite brand into its restoration.
As you can see by the picture below, the giant beer bottle is empty inside. So maybe it would live up to the classic Miller Lite slogan, “Great Taste, Less Filling.”
