Could Commerce Township get a new shopping district?
Commerce Township, located in western Oakland County, could get a new $100 million dollar open-air shopping district. The development would be similar to The Mall at Partridge Creek in Clinton Township and The Village of Rochester Hills.
According to the Detroit Free Press, the developer would be Robert B. Aikens and Associates of Birmingham. The project would be called 5th & Main and would serve as the township’s downtown.
The development would be located off of Pontiac Trail and Martin Parkway.
It would have shopping, a movie theater with reclining seats, an upscale grocery market, a full restaurant and bar, and up to 13 other fast casual and sit down restaurants.
The project would also feature 300 market rate residences with half of them part of a residential community for people over 55.
The first phase would be 42 acres. A 14 acre, second phase, is possible.
This isn’t a done deal. Aikens & Associates are still securing tenant commitments for the project. The project would have to be at least 65 percent pre-leased in order to get construction loans.
