With the rise of occupancy in the heart of downtown Detroit it’s no surprise there is also an influx of new pet owners in the area. It seems like every month or so there is a new building popping up or restaurant filling up old abandoned space, and it’s great to see new parks being developed for both pet owners and local residents to enjoy.
Now, it’s time for some development for our four-legged residents as there’s a new dog park in Capitol Park.
Responsible for the new dog across the street of The Albert is Ashcraft Landscapers. They are also responsible for the dog park in the Grand Circus Park, adjacent of the Comerica Park. As many of the new residential buildings are allowing animals, the need for more parks to entertain those furry family members increases.
Being a dog owner, I’m particularly looking forward to seeing more small patches of land turn into mini parks for people to hang out at and bring their pets to.
The dog park at Capitol Park will be about a quarter of the size of the Grand Circus dog park and will remain unfenced, mainly encouraging owners to keep their pets leashed and as a quick stop option when walking around the area.
Capitol Park at one time was the turnaround for Detroit buses and over the years has seen some hard times, even though it has an illustrious beginning as it was the site of capitol building for the state of Michigan until 1847. Redevelopment projects now ring the triangular gathering space, which when you visit it, you can see the potential as it has retained much of its older architecture.
In case you want to get on the fun with a paw-ty, Grand Circus park is promoting a Dog Party on August 29, which will feature a dog parade as well.
