Charlie LeDuff and Detroit are nowadays almost synonymous in the minds of many.
His entertaining style of television reporting has drawn high praise, as well as a share of criticism. But as it has been said, “If you have no critics you’ll likely have no success.”
Now it seems LeDuff is closing a chapter. Posting earlier today on his Facebook page, he says he’s leaving Fox 2 Detroit (WJBK) December 1.

Although many locally know him for his television work, he has written for various national publications including the New York Times, where he won a Pulitzer Prize for “At a Slaughterhouse, Some Things Never Die” as part of a 10-part series on race. There was also a stint at the Detroit News.
There are three books to his credit. US Guys: The True and Twisted Mind of the American Man; Work and Other Sins; and Detroit: An American Autopsy.
“An American Autopsy” is considered by some a must-read to understand the dynamics of Detroit.
One of his most popular video pieces was from a few years ago, “Squatting on the Squatter.” So that’s the video we embedded at the top. It’s quintessential LeDuff.
Below, a piece with Vice where the tables were turned a bit and he was asked the questions, talking about inequality in America (and of course, Detroit). Whatever he decides to do next, people will be watching.
