The sudden news of the passing of pop music legend Prince (Prince Rogers Nelson) at the age of 57 stunned the world. To honor and celebrate him, Cinema Detroit in the Midtown neighborhood of the city is screening his iconic 1984 film “Purple Rain” five times next week.
The movie is an entertaining and fictitious version of his life story and includes extended concert scenes.
“Our hearts are greatly sadden upon hearing of the passing of Prince. In honor of his memory and the lasting legacy he left us with his music, fashion, mystique and film, Cinema Detroit will be running Prince’s first movie Purple Rain for all his endearing fans and our way of showing our love for Prince,” said David Rudolph, publicist of Cinema Detroit.
When it comes to the decision of securing the rights and showing the movie, Cinema Detroit’s Paula Guthat said “I thought it was the right thing to do” on a post on Facebook.
