What’s up Detroit, we’re back once again for the weekend rundown with your City 5.
We’ve crossed into the last month of summer, which means winter is poking her icy claw at our sacred tropical bubble. Soon enough we’ll be talking about ice skating at Campus Martius, so slip on your flip flops and let’s enjoy what’s left of this magical summer window.
Detroit Improv Festival – Friday-Sunday – Detroit, Ferndale
If summer time festivals are your thing, then this week’s list is for you.
First up is The Detroit Improv Festival, presented by the sidesplitting folks of the Detroit Improv Collective.
Comics and performers from all over the country will take to the stage in the comedy clubs of Detroit and Ferndale for 5 days of foolhardy fun.
This year’s headliners are Saturday Night Live Legends Tim Meadows and Horatio Sanz, and there are plenty of other great performers as well, including Kevin Dorf, Mac Evan Jackson, and Marybeth Monroe.
The festival started on Wednesday but tickets are still available for the weekend shows. They start at $110.00 and group rates are also available.

River Side Groove – Saturday and Sunday – Detroit
If you didn’t get your fill of techno from the heady combination of the Movement and Charivari festivals, then you’re in luck, because this weekend’s Riverside Groove is just the thing to complete your holy trinity of techno.
The festival is armed with two days of some of the world’s finest talent including Kevin Saunderson, Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs, and Matthew Dear.
The event runs Saturday and Sunday and takes place at Sinbad’s Restaurant & Marina on the beautiful Detroit Riverfront.
After the day of music at Sinbad’s you can head over to the after parties going down at the works on both Saturday and Sunday.
Weekend passes are $60 and are going quick, and some VIP tickets are still available for $100. If two days is a little too much for your eardrums, you can also grab a single day pass for just $35.

Annual Detroit Caribbean Cultural Festival – Friday-Sunday – New Center Park Detroit
If techno beats aren’t really your bag then consider this tropical alternative.
Join The Caribbean Cultural And Carnival Organization as they present the annual Detroit Caribbean Culture Festival.
The three day event brings the sites and sounds of the Caribbean right to New Center Park.
Open to all ages, this fun-filled event has a variety of live performances from local and international artists, flavorful and authentic Caribbean food, souvenirs, and activities for the entire family to enjoy.

OABI Detroit – Saturday – Belle Isle, Detroit
If you’re looking for a healthy dose of exercise and some friendly competition this Saturday, then look no further than the 3rd annual OABI event at Belle Isle.
OABI, an acronym that stands for Once Around Belle Isle, is a 7-mile paddle race around our favorite little island in the beautiful Detroit river.
The event runs from 11am-8pm on Saturday, and features paddling lessons and demos, live music, craft beer, food trucks, and a variety of paddle vendors.

Historic Boston Edison Attic Sale – Saturday and Sunday – Detroit
If you love a good visit to the thrift store or a summertime garage sale, then make your way down to Detroit’s historic Boston Edison neighborhood for their weekend long attic sale!
If you’ve never visited this beautiful neighborhood, then this event is the perfect opportunity to cruise these storied streets, and see some of the finest architecture in the city.
Years past have seen residents shelling out clothes, artwork, antiques and much more, so don’t miss your chance to stock up on some great vintage gems.
The sale runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday so take advantage while you can.
