The weekend is almost here, and I can’t wait. For some reason this week has been ultra draining, and I really just want to check out for a bit.

There is a ton of things to do this weekend, and I had a hard time culling the list. But I did it, and these are my TOP picks.

I have a feeling I’ll be checking out at least one of the films at the Freep Film Festival starting Friday night.

Let’s get on to the list. I Hope you all have a great weekend.

Freep Film Festival

The Freep Film Festival technically kicked off on Tuesday night, but the majority of the films will be screened throughout the weekend.

This years batch of films are pretty impressive. I was looking over the line up and there are a few movies that have caught my eye.

I’m really interested in checking out the film Bean, Detroit 48202, and Won’t You Be My Neighbor.

If you have been wanting to check out that Mr. Roger’s documentary this is your chance. It will be playing on Friday night at 6 p.m. Maybe I’ll run into you, because I have been dying to see this film.

Check out the Freep Film Festival website for the entire schedule.

The film festival is spread out over more than ten venues. Most of the venues are inside the city, but there are some films that will be shown at Emagine Novi and Royal Oak.

Detroit Whiskey Festival

When I go out for a cocktail I generally stick to Whiskeys and Bourbon drinks.

So of course this event was going to be in my City 5.

If you enjoy a nice smooth Whiskey then you should go to Shed 3 at Eastern Market on Friday night.

There will be tasting stations where you can choose from a mixed cocktail or a straight taste.

Each ticket will come with 12 beverage samples. If you get hungry there will also be food for purchase.

It should go without saying, but this is a 21 and over event. Also, don’t forget to have a DD or utilize Lift or Uber if you’re going to be drinking.

Tickets are $25 per person. You can purchase them online here.

When: Friday, April 13 from 6 p.m.-10 p.m.

Where: Eastern Market Shed 3 2934 Russell Street Detroit, Michigan 48207

Dequindre Cut Community Clean Up

Now that the snow is gone (I hope) it is time to start cleaning up the aftermath of a long winter.

This Saturday the Detroit RiverFront Conservancy will be holding a community clean up of the Dequindre Cut and they need your help.

If you’re in the spring cleaning mood the clean up will take place between 12 p.m.-4 p.m.

Volunteers can check-in at the Dequindre Cut entrances at Woodbridge, Gratiot, and Wilkins Street.

Be sure to dress for the elements. Gloves and trash bags will be provided.

When: Saturday, April 14 from 12:00-4:00 p.m.

Where: Along the Dequindre Cut

That BIG 80s Party

That BIG 80s Party is coming back to El Club this Saturday night.

You know what that means right? It’s time to pull out all your old day glow, banana clips, and the Stiff Stuff Hairspray.

DJ Dave Paul will be flying in from San Francisco to spin all of those totally hip tunes from the decade that brought you hip-hop and new wave.

If you are a lover of the music and style of the 1980s then you HAVE to go to this party.

Tickets are $10 a person, you can pick them up here.

When: Saturday, April 14 from 8 p.m.-2 a.m.

Where: El Club 4114 Vernor Highway Detroit, Michigan 48209

6th Annual Detroit Rummage Sale

I don’t know if I’ve ever told you but I absolutely love a good garage sale.

But the weather is still a bit too unpredictable for garage sale season. So, if you’ve got that itch like I do I suggest checking out the Detroit Rummage Sale this Sunday.

There will be plenty of sellers set up with a good selection of used items, vintage collectibles, to everyday needs.

The best part is the sale is indoors, so if it is too cold or wet outside you can still enjoy your time haggling for a great deal.

Admission is free, and all ages are welcome.

When: Sunday, April 15 from 12 p.m.- 6 p.m.

Where: Tangent Gallery 715 E. Milwaukee Street Detroit, Michigan 48202

Bonus

Motor City Soul Club: April Soul Stomp

You know the drill, it’s time for the Motor City Soul Club to spin rare soul and funk music from the 1960s and 1970s.

DJ’s Dan Austin, Brad Hales and Erica Aytes will be joined by special guest B. Hill this month for the April Soul Stomp.

There’s no cover and it is a really great crowd.

When: Saturday, April 14 from 10 p.m.-2:30 a.m.
