Hello everyone!
Is it just me or is this week is flying by? It’s been pretty busy since I got back from Grand Rapids on Monday, and it doesn’t seem like it’s going to slow down the rest of the week. Maybe that’s why it seems like things are moving so quickly.
Anyway, there are some fun things happening around town this weekend. Let’s get started.
Game and Trivia Night at Beacon Park
Head over to Beacon Park this Friday night for a night of board games and trivia thanks to Vault of Midnight.
This event is part of the FIRST championship global robotics competition that is currently happening in Detroit.
While you’re over at Beacon Park don’t forget to check out the free arcade and glow in the dark putt-putt.
The event is free to attend. You can find out more information here.
When: Friday, April 27 from 6 p.m.-9 p.m.
Where: Beacon Park 1903 Grand River Avenue Detroit, Michigan 48226
Pheasant Walk
Do you like long walks early in the morning? Are you fascinated with the pheasants that call Detroit home?
If so, I have the event for you.
The Detroit Audubon will have their Pheasant Walk this Saturday. Diane Chekich, a Detroit Audubon board member will lead the walk.
The walk is beginner and family friendly and will cover between 8 to 15 city blocks.
The walk is free, but you will need to register here.
When: Saturday, April 28 at 8 a.m.
Where: 3500 Grandy Street Detroit, Michigan 48207 (the corner of Scott Street and Grandy Street.)
4th Annual Independent Bookstore Day
There is something special about walking into a cozy bookstore and perusing the curated shelves of books.
Those little indie bookstores are special places but they often get overlooked thanks to big box stores and Amazon.
But on Saturday, the Indie bookstores will be celebrated thanks to Independent Bookstore Day. Over 450 independent bookstores around the country will be participating.
Both Pages Bookshop and Source Booksellers will be holding events.
Pages Bookshop will have authors, guest booksellers, baked goods, blind date with a book, and more.
Source Booksellers will be doing something a bit different.
They will be hosting their annual Bookstore Stories Session. It is a storytelling project where customers can tell them a brief story about their favorite visit to a bookstore. You can find out more information here.
When: Saturday, April 28
Where: Multiple Locations
P.S. There are other indie bookstores around metro Detroit. So, be sure to check them out as well. I hear our friend Karen Dybis will be at Book Beat in Oak Park.
Adventures in Wonkaland
This event sounds bonkers … so it had to be included.
If you want to go to the land of pure imagination then you should head over to the Tangent Gallery for Adventures in Wonkaland.
I almost feel like I am Stefan from SNL because this event will have everything.
It will have an LED gum ball pit that you can dive into, a chocolate fountain to swim in, and all the cotton candy you can eat.
This event is 18 and over, but bring your ID if you plan on drinking.
Tickets are $20 at the door and $25 after 11 p.m.
When: Saturday, April 28 from 9 p.m.-4 p.m.
Where: Tangent Gallery/Hastings Street Ballroom 715 E. Milwaukee Street Detroit, Michigan 48202
Palmer Woods Music in Homes
I love the homes in Palmer Woods. It is my favorite neighborhood in the city … so any chance I get to go inside one of these homes makes me pretty happy.
This Sunday the Eason Trio will be the final indoor performance for the Palmer Woods Music in Homes series.
The Eason Trio is made up of harpist Patricia Terry-Ross, violinist Velda Kelly and cellist Nadine Deleury. They will also be joined by flutist William underwood III for several pieces for flute and harp.
They will play an eclectic mix of music from the 16th century up to the 21st century.
Dinner is included in the price of the ticket.
Tickets for the concert are $50 per person and can be purchased online or by calling 313-891-2514.
When: Sunday, April 28 at 7 p.m.
Where: The address will be released once tickets are purchased.
