Whether you’re still trying to shake off the sadness of the Lions crushing loss on Monday night, are preparing to watch the Red Wings kick off their season this Friday, or you could care less about sports all together, we’ve got plenty of action to keep you busy all weekend long.

Hamtramck Neighborhood Arts Festival – Friday-Sunday – Hamtramck
With the crisp fall air moving in a rapid pace, it’s prime time to get out and enjoy the last few weeks of acceptable waking weather. So throw on some corduroys and favorite fall jacket and go check out the 6th annual Hamtramck Neighborhood Arts Festival.
This free and eclectic community-wide art festival is a loosely curated show that activates the city’s indigenous talent, creating a walkable, neighborhood art experience on porches, in homes, on side walks and in store fronts.
The event kicks off on Friday night with an opening reception at Popps Packing, which will feature new work by Hamtown artist and performer Jessica Frelinghuysen, as well as maps and a rundown of how the rest of the event will shake out over the next two days.
With plenty of great local art and music, this is a great way to explore the rich weirdness of Hamtramck with the whole family!

Michigan Craft Beer Stroll – Saturday – Royal Oak
If you’re looking for something a little saucier for your Saturday, then consider Royal Oak’s Craft Beer Stroll presented by the Royal Oak Restaurant Association.
This self-guided bar and restaurant walking tour through downtown Royal Oak is a great way to explore the city’s bustling food and drink scene for a pretty reasonable price.
Ale Mary’s, Bastone, and Lilly’s Seafood are just a few of the more than 20 restaurants participating in the event, each of which will offer one of a kind food and drink specials for Beer Stroll participants only.
Check in for the event starts at 11am at 5th Avenue Bar. Save $10 by getting a pre-sale ticket, but do it soon because pre-sale ends on Friday!

Fall Out Fest III – Saturday – Ferndale
Detroit is heavily spiced with a slew of great local music – so much in fact, that keeping up with the best bands in town as they move from venue to venue can be exhausting.
Make life a little easier on yourself this Saturday with the return of Fallout Fest at the Loving Touch in Ferndale.
For just $10, treat yourself to 9 bands, 2 stages, and showcases from local artists.
You’ll enjoy music from bands like Bars of Gold, Valley Hush, George Morris & The Gypsy Chorus and more, as well as art from Moonbeam Industries, Artifex Detroit, Moosey Moose, and a host of other talented local folks.
The show is all ages and kicks off at 8pm, and you can be sure that the only thing cheaper then the ticket price will be the drinks, so don’t miss it, or as the event page says, “you will carry the burden of regret into eternity.”

Pewabic Raku Party – Saturday – Detroit
If craft beer binges and local jams aren’t your speed, then consider checking out local pottery retailer, Pewabic, for their Raku party at their shop on East Jefferson Avenue in Detroit.
You’ll experience the excitement of working with Pewabic artists to select, decorate and fire your very own pot to take home at the end of the session.
This hands on experience is not only a blast for the whole family, but will also help support Pewabic much loved education programs, which serve nearly 14,000 individuals each year.
In addition to the crafts, there will be live music, whole pizzas from Amicci’s for $10, and great seasonal beers from Atwater for just $5 per pint.

Zoo Boo – Sunday – Detroit Zoo, Royal Oak
All right, I realize that October has only just begun and that it might be too early to start talking Halloween events, but this one seemed perfect for families looking for fun season activities for the kiddos.
This “merry not scary” celebration features a festively decorated trick-or-treat trail through the front of the Detroit Zoo.
Live, friendly entertainment from the Zoo Boo Revue and a host of others awaits you and your costume-clad little ones, who will shriek with delight at the endless array of sights, sounds and, of course, candy.
The event runs from 5 until 8pm on the evenings of October 9-11, October 16-18 and October 23-25, 5 to 8 p.m., rain-or-shine. Purchasing advanced tickets is highly recommended.
