Seeing as it is the last unofficial weekend of summer, we thought we would bring you another supersized list of things to do. If you love music, this weekend is for you. There is so much live music being played in Metro Detroit that I have can’t even count it all.
Hopefully you can make it to one of these cool events between family barbecues and taking your last dips in the community pools.
Hamtramck Labor Day Festival – Hamtramck
Head over to the greatest little Polish town on the map to enjoy some fun Labor Day festivities. This is the 37th year of the Hometown festival and it should be a great time.
There will be a carnival, great food, and tons of music. This year there will be over 40 acts playing. There will also be fowling in the streets, Golab-K 5K run, Hamtramck Yacht Club Race, and the Polish Day Parade, and an art fair.

The Hamtramck Labor Day Festival will be held September 2-5 from 12:00 PM until 10:00 PM.
Detroit Jazz Festival – Downtown Detroit
The Jazzfest closes out the summer festival season in Detroit. This is a great opportunity for those who love jazz music to come down into the city and see some amazing artist perform. This is the 37th year for the Jazz Festival.
This year is special because the Artist in Residence is Detroit’s own Ron Carter. Carter is a world renowned bassist, who has performed in over 2,000 albums. Carter will perform four times during the festival, so don’t miss this opportunity.
Hours: Saturday 11:30 AM to 11:00 PM, Sunday 11:30 AM to 10 PM, Monday 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM
Arts Beats and Eats – Royal Oak
The time has come for Arts, Beats and Eats in Royal Oak. The four day festival starts on Friday, September 2 and will end on Monday, September 5.
The title of the festival tells you everything you need to know about it. There is a judged art show, tons of live acts, amazing food, a carnival, and a 5k and 10k.
There will be eight stages with live performances. My top pick for musical act would be Joan Jet and the Blackhearts they will be performing on Friday night at 8:00 PM.
If you are interested in going I highly suggest checking out the map on the Arts, Beats and Eats website to get an idea of where things are before you get down there. You can also find the music schedule there as well.
Hours: Friday through Sunday 11:00 AM- 11:00 PM, Monday 11:00 AM-9:30 PM
Admission is $3 per person, after 3:00 PM it goes up to $5.
Riverside Groove – Riverside Marina
If dance music is your thing, this is the event for you. Head over to the Riverside Marina to listen to acts like Skream, Moon Boots, and Golf Clap.
This is an 18 and over event, but of course only 21 and over will be able to drink.
Tickets are $20 in advance, $30 at the door. If you want to get VIP tickets those will cost you $40 in advance and $50 for day of.
Riverside Grove will be held on Saturday, September 3 from 12:00 PM- 11:00 PM.

Michigan State Fair – Novi
Head over to the Suburban Collection Showplace in Novi to enjoy the Michigan State Fair. There will be a ton of fun stuff to do, and a ton of food to eat. It is a State Fair after all.
The Shrine Circus will be having shows, so if you like the circus you’re in luck. There will also be a ton of live performances. Check out Lisa Mary Live With The Band on Saturday night at the Culture and Community stage. The performance starts at 8:30 PM.
Tickets for the State Fair start out at $8.00 for adults, and $6.00 for children 2 to 11. Children under 2 are free with a paid adult. You can also get a wrist band for the fair, circus, and unlimited rides for $30.00 per person. You can purchase tickets in advance on the website.
The State Fair starts Thursday, September 1 and runs through Monday, September 5.

Craft Faire – Armada
If you feel like taking a bit of a road trip I have a fun event for you to check out in Armada. Head over to Blake Farms and check out the 35th annual Craft Faire.
Besides checking out the local vendors and artists in the market, you can hop on a train and take a tour of the farm and orchard. There will also be workshops all day on Saturday.
This will be a ton of fun if you have kids, they have the Barnyard fun land which is filled with a petting zoo, straw mountain, a playground, and a whole lot more.
I feel like going just for the corn roast.
The Craft Faire will be held Saturday, September 3 through Monday, September 5

Wild Women of Detroit Bus Tour
Why runs the world? Girls do. If you have ever been interested in learning about women who called Detroit home this is the bus tour for you. Come find out about Marie de Cadillac, famous Motown stars, and other interesting women on this tour.
Detroit History Tours are the folks behind the tour that will be on Saturday September 3. The tour starts at 6:15 PM and will last until 11:30. There will be stops at two of Detroit’s most historic bars for food and drinks.
The tour is 21 and over, so leave your little ones at home.
Tickets are $40.00 per person, and can be purchased on the Detroit History Tours website.
