This weekend is chock-full of activities, so it might be hard to pick just one. Honestly, I had a hard time narrowing the list down to five, so I’ve thrown in a bonus event as well.
Have a great weekend, and try to stay cool.
Paddle Board Races – Belle Isle
We’ve already covered this event at the beginning of August, but the day has almost arrived to participate in this fun race around Belle Isle.
There will also be a fun beach party filled with food, games, vendors, and New Belgium Beer.
Pierogi Festival – Mother of Divine Mercy/St. Josaphat, St. Joseph & Sweetest Heart of Mary
We love pierogies at Daily Detroit, and I’m pretty sure you all love pierogies as well.
This weekend is the 35th annual Pierogi Festival at Mother of Divine Mercy near Eastern Market. The festival runs Friday through Sunday and it will be filled with food, music, shopping, dancing and more.
There is a pre party on Friday from 6:00 until 10:00. The pre party is 21 and over.
Saturday: 12:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m., Sunday: 12:00 p.m.- 8:00 p.m.

The Detroit Fireman’s Fund Field Day will be held in the soccer field next to the fort. There will be tons of family activities to participate in like face painting, dunk tanks, and a train. Not to mention the most important part, fire trucks. There will also be food available. The Fireman’s Fund Field Day opens at 11:00 AM until 4:00 PM.

If you plan on coming and adopting an animal here are a few things you need to know. You must have a valid driver license or state issued identification, with proof current address. The adoption process includes an approved application, detailed description of the medical for the adoptable pet and the standard adoption fee associated with the pet. Adoption fees for small dogs and puppies under 20 pounds will be $290. Fees for dogs and puppies over 20 pounds will be $190. Cats will be $75 to adopt.

Detroit Dizzy Dames Reunion – Tangent Gallery/Hasting Street Gallery
If you are looking for a really fun entertaining date night I highly suggest checking out the Detroit Dizzy Dames on Sunday night. The Detroit Dizzy Dames is lead by the the ever talented Lushes LaMoan. The group is the best burlesque group in Michigan, and it has been a while since they have done a full revue.
If you’re not sure what burlesque is here is the definition: a humorous and provocative stage show featuring slapstick humor, comic skits, bawdy songs, striptease acts, and a scantily clad female chorus.
If this sounds like something that you are interested in, I highly suggest checking it out. The Dizzy Dames put on a great show. Also this should go without saying, but this show is 21 and over.
Tickets are $15 at the door. Doors open at 7:00 PM and the show starts at 8:00 PM on the dot.
Tangent Gallery/Hasting Street Gallery is located at 715 E Milwaukee St, Detroit, Michigan 48202
-Bonus-
Dean Savage Park Celebration – Trumbull and Porter Hotel
This event started out as a fundraising event to help fund the work being done in Dean Savage Park in Corktown (which, by the way, I can’t help but accidentally and incorrectly say “Dan Savage Park.”) They have met the goal so they have changed the event into a celebration.
There will be food from Slows BBQ, Mercury Burger Bar, Batch Brewery, Mudgies, and McShane’s Pub and Whiskey. There will also be beer from Batch Brewery as well.
Tickets are $20 per person.
Trumbull and Porter Hotel is located at 1331 Trumbull St, Detroit, Michigan 48216
