It’s hard to believe that yet another week has passed and it is time to make plans for the weekend. But don’t worry, we have you covered.
Now on to the things happening in Detroit this weekend.
Charivari Detroit 2016 – Belle Isle
This weekend music festival on Belle Isle is sure to be a great time. We have already done a post that has a line up of the entire weekend so head over there to read all about the line up and all the additional events happening.
Here are the key details, tickets for the entire weekend are only $55 per person. Children under the age of 16 are free, as are people the age of 60. This makes it a great event to bring your kids and parents. You can also buy single day tickets for $30 per person.
There is limited parking on the island, so there is a shuttle that can take you to and from the parking lot behind the Big Boys on Jefferson.
Charivari starts Friday, August 5 and runs through August 7.
Bourbon, Brews, BBQ – Capitol Park
There has been a lot of improvement over in Capitol Park in the past few years, and people are finally seeing the great potential this little area of downtown has.
Bourbon, Brews, and BBQ is the first event for the month of August that will be held in Capitol Park. You can go here for the post we did on all of the events happening on Saturday nights in August. There will be a different theme every Saturday night.
While you’re at this fun event, go have a drink with Michigan’s first Governor Stevens T. Mason who is buried in the park.
Tickets are $15 per person in advance, or $20 ($23 with credit card) the day of. 100% of the proceeds will go to the Detroit 300 Conservancy. This is a 21 and over event.

Boston Edison Attic Sale – Boston Edison
I’m not sure about you, but I love a good garage sale. What makes this one special is that it is in a beautifully historic neighborhood of Detroit, and it is huge. There will be over 50 homes participating in this sale.
Bring you cash, and get ready to find some treasures! There will be tons of antiques, furniture, appliances, tools, clothing and more.

Boston Edison is comprised of these streets; Boston, Chicago, Longfellow, and Edison, spanning from Woodward to Linwood. The sale will happen on both Saturday and Sunday from 9:00 AM-4:00 PM.
History of JL Hudson’s Building – Ferndale Public Library
Ferndale Public Library is hosting the Book Club of Detroit his month from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM. This month’s topic is history of the JL Hudson Building. Lucas McGrail will be speaking at the event. McGrail is an architect and Detroit Historian.
For those of you who are new to Detroit or maybe too young to remember the Hudson Department Store on Woodward, it was kind of a big deal. It stood on Woodward and Gratiot for 70 years and was demolished in 1998.
I’m sure the presentation will be chocked full of fun tidbits about the department store.

Handlebars for the Homeless – Neighborhood Service Organization
Sunday morning the Neighborhood Service Organization (NSO) will be hosting Handlebars for the Homeless which is a 17 mile bike ride through Detroit. The bike ride will start at 9:00 AM and will go through 11:00 AM.
Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. Sunday, August 7, where there will be light breakfast refreshments. You can register online as well. Participants will receive a high-performance t-shirt, spoke card, and entry into a Detroit Bikes raffle.
The guided tour will go through The University of Detroit Mercy campus, Sherwood Forest, Palmer Park, and Boston Edison.
If you are interested in attending it is $40 to register. Kids must be over 14 years old to ride. If they are under 18 they must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
You must also have a bike helmet.
The ride will begin at the NSO Bell Building. T he address there is 882 Oakman Boulevard.
