Hello Fourth of July weekend! This weekend will be filled with cookouts, city firework displays, and parades but there are still some other things happening around town.

Remember to be safe this weekend! Be careful if you plan on lighting off fireworks – the state has been considering a ban on fireworks due to the dry conditions and your community may have one.

Without further ado, here is this weekends City 5 – so if you’re staying in town you don’t have to crash someone’s birthday party on Belle Isle.

Corktown Strut

Corktown Strut – Corktown

Spend the holiday weekend at this three-day music and food festival in Corktown. There are eight venues throughout Corktown that will host numerous music acts over Friday, Saturday and Sunday. There is a shuttle that can take people to the different venues. The list of musical acts is long but it is diverse. Some of the music acts performing over the three days are The Motor City Wine Jazz All Stars, Reckloose, Queen Kwong, Libby DeCamp, and Charity Ward. The line up for all of the music acts and venues can be found on the Corktown Strut website.

The Detroit Free Press is hosting the kick off party on Friday night at Two James. The party starts at 7:00 PM and goes until 1:00 AM. Tickets for Friday night are $8.00 per person.

Tickets for Saturday and Sunday are $20 for each day, or you can buy a two-day pass for $30. You can purchase tickets here, or the day of the event at Batch Brewing from 2:30 PM until 9:00 PM.

Corktown restaurants are also having a culinary week. This is a great way to check out the special menu items from Gold Cash Gold, Batch Brewing, Katoi, Slows Bar BQ, Brooklyn Street Local, PJ’s Lager House, Mudgie’s Deli, Mercury Burger Bar, and Ottava Via.

The music festival is 21 and older, however the food festival is all ages.

Motown Black & White – Detroit Historical Society

This is the final weekend for you to check out this exhibit at the Detroit Historical museum. Motown Black & White was part of the community gallery, and the time has come for a new exhibit to go in the space.

The exhibit has photographs from Al Abrams, Motown’s press officer. The exhibit is based off of Abrams 2011 book Hype & Soul: Behind the Scenes At Motown. And it will also give people the opportunity to see the new cover of Abrams second book, High On Soul; Tell Me It’s Just A Rumor Berry.

Upscale Bar Tour – Seven Point Two Tours

If you don’t have plans on Saturday night the folks at Seven Point Two Tours have put together an upscale bar tour. We love dive bars here at Daily Detroit, but there is something about dressing up in your finest dress clothes and enjoying an Old Fashion in a swanky bar.

This bar tour also benefits Forgotten Harvest, so your money is going to a good cause.

The tour starts at London Chop House and will go through the Central Business District.

Tickets are $20 per person, and it is a 21 an over event.

The tour starts at 7:00 PM and goes until 10:30 PM.
