There is a common theme for the events this weekend and that is music. Music has a way of bringing people from different backgrounds together. It is a universal language. The other common theme is that most of these events are family friendly. So pack up the kids and spend some time getting to know your neighbors.
Crash Detroit – Roosevelt Park
This is the third year that the Detroit Party Marching Band has put together this fun music fill weekend. Crash Detroit is a two-day party that showcases party bands from around the country.
On Friday night bands will be having spontaneous performances around Detroit. You can find out where bands will be playing on the Crash Facebook page and Twitter.
The big event happens on Saturday at Roosevelt Park in front of Michigan Central Station. Ten street bands will perform all day in two different tents. The first performances start at 2:00 PM. There will be plenty of fun things to do for kids, like a place to make instruments and also rag time parades throughout the day.
This is a free event, however donations are always welcome.

Concert of Colors – Throughout Midtown
The Concert of Colors is a diversity festival that has been around for 24 years. The three-day event has multiple venues throughout Midtown. The festival will showcase world music, ethnic food, and different vendors. This will be a great event to bring your whole family.
The Concert of Colors has five venues this year, Arab American National Museum, Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History, Detroit Institute of Arts, Scarab Club, and the Max M. and Marjorie S. Fisher Music Center.

The Concert of Colors runs from July 15-17 in Midtown Detroit.
Stadt Garten Home Opener – Stadt Garten
Come hang out at this urban beer garden will be held on the grounds of a beautifully restored Victorian mansion.
This fun event will have beer from Batch Brewing Company, cocktails fragranced with scents from Sfumato, ice cream from Vicecream, and cold pressed coffee from Will Leather Goods. Ryan Spencer of Jamaican Queens will be performing.
Come for the beer and cocktails but stay for horseshoes, beer pong, and possibly euchre.
Proceeds from the event will benefit Hostel Detroit.
Stadt Garten is located at 3980 Second Avenue, Detroit.
The home opener will be open from 10:00 AM-10:00 PM on Saturday.
Riviere 28 Fitness Fusion – Mt. Elliot Park
If working out is more your speed, there will be three classes being held at Mt. Elliot Park on Sunday July 17. Riviere 28 is organizing the mid morning fitness classes. If you have never heard of Riviere 28, they are part of the Detroit Riverfront Conservancy.
There will be three classes offered cardio kickboxing, bootcamp, and yoga. You don’t have to do all three classes, but you can if you want. Each class is 30 minutes. Make sure you bring your mat, towel, and plenty of water to drink.
After the classes there will be smoothies, healthy snacks, and the opportunity to speak to a dietitian and trainer.
The classes are $15, and you can register for classes on the Riviere 28 website.

Festival Italiana – Freedom Hill
Freedom Hill will be filled with all things Italy at this weekend’s festival. You can find out all of the information for this fun family event on a post we did a few weeks ago.
Admission is free, but parking is $10 per car.
Festival Italiana will be held on July 15-17.

Bonus: Bob The Drag Queen – Necto
We don’t often talk about things that are happening in Ann Arbor, but I will make an exception for Bob The Drag Queen.
The season 8 winner of RuPaul’s Drag Race will be performing at Necto in Ann Arbor on Friday night. There will be two performances at 9:30 PM, and Midnight. There will also be a meet and greet after the final performance of the night.

Double Bonus: Exhale in the Market – Royal Oak Farmers Market
There will be an hour-long yoga class on Sunday July, 17 at 6:30 PM. Tommy Mack will be leading the class and DJ Dav will be providing live music. You can register for the class here.
There is a $10 donation per person and the proceeds will go toward the Downtown Boxing Gym youth program.
