Welcome to the final weekend of April. It seems hard to believe that May is next Monday,. There are a lot of fun things to do this weekend, and the weather is warm. Let’s get started.
Detroit Gin and Vodka Festival — Detroit
This is the first year for the Detroit Gin and Vodka Festival, but I can bet it will be a good time. If you enjoy your clear liquors this is the festival for you.
This is a perfect opportunity to try out some of the local distilleries like Atwater Vodka, Detroit City Distillery, Our/Detroit, Two James, and Valentine. There will also be plenty of national brands at the event as well.
The event will be on Friday, April 28 from 6 p.m. until 10 p.m.
Tickets are $45 per person and $20 if you are the designated driver for the evening. Each person will receive 12 drink tickets.
The event will be held in Shed 3 of Eastern Market.
Independent Bookstore Day at Pages Bookshop — Detroit
Saturday is a national celebration of independent book stores. This is a great way to get to know your small bookstores. Pages Bookshop is participating in this event.
The day will be filled with so many cool things like; exclusive Independent Bookstore Day merchandise, blind date with a book, make your own Golden Book, and a great sale on books.
As RuPaul always says, “Reading is what? Fundamental.” Go get some new books from Pages!
You can visit Pages from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Saturday.
Pages is located at 19560 Grand River Detroit, Michigan 48223
Spring into Belle Isle Family Day — Detroit
Looking for a family friendly event for Saturday? Head over to the Dossin Great Lakes Museum on Belle Isle for the 4th Annual Spring into Belle Isle Family Day.
There will be a lot of fun crafts to do at the museum, plus a really fun road rally.
The road rally is like a scavenger hunt, but instead of being timed groups will rack up points. The road rally will take groups all over the popular places on Belle Isle.
If you plan on participating in the road rally you need to check in at the Gothic Room inside the Dossin before 2 p.m. Groups have until 4 p.m. to complete the challenge.
Spring into Belle Isle Family Day will be held from 11 p.m. until 4 p.m.
The Dossin Great Lakes Museum is located at 100 The Strand Detroit, Michigan 48207
P.S. — Just remember that you will need to have a Recreation Passport to enter Belle Isle.
Salam Neighbor and Desserts — Detroit
I know the topic of Syrian refugees can sometimes get pretty heated, however I think that learning about global issues is incredibly important.
Cinema Detroit will be showing the film Salam Neighbor which is a film about the Za’atari refugee camp. Before the film guests will have the opportunity to have Algerian, Syrian, and Persian tea and pastries from Peace Meal Kitchen, Warda Patisserie, and Ann St. Peter from Pinwheel Bakery.
Tickets are $20 per person, and they will also be collecting donations for the Syrian American Rescue Network — SARN.
The event starts at 3 p.m. and the film will begin at 4:30 p.m.
Cinema Detroit is located at 4126 3rd Street Detroit, Michigan 48201

This is opening weekend for Failure: A Love Story at Planet Ant.
This is the final show of the 2016/2017 season, so if you’ve never been to a scripted show at Planet Ant now is your chance.
Failure: A Love story is about three sisters who live in the 1920s and all of the ups and downs of life.
Tickets are for Planet Ant shows are usually $20 a piece, but during opening weekend they are half off. I suggest getting your tickets early because shows generally sell out. If you can’t make it to the show this weekend don’t fret it is running through May 20.
