Last weekend my house was sick. Now that we’re feeling better I am really looking forward to getting to go have some fun this weekend.
Opening Reception for Drawn: Concept to Construction — Detroit
This Friday night is the opening of the exhibition Drawn: Concept to Construction at Pewabic Pottery.
If you love architectural design (both the history and the creative process) this is something that you need to see. The exhibition will examine some of Pewabics most notable projects in Detroit throughout it’s history.
The reception will be on Friday, January 27 from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m.
Pewabic Pottery is located at 10125 E. Jefferson in Detroit.
If you can’t make it to the opening reception the exhibition will be open through March 5.
American Black Journal Roadshow — Detroit
There will be a live edition of American Black Journal hosted by Stephen Henderson this Saturday morning at the Downtown Boxing Gym Youth Program (DBGYP.)
The topic of the morning will be the importance of mentoring.
The Founder and CEO of the DBGYP Khali Sweeney will be speaking about how his program is giving the youth of Detroit a way to get patience and discipline through boxing.
The panel will also be made up of numerous people in a variety of industries and organizations like; Rock Ventures/Quicken, University of Michigan Dearborn, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metro Detroit, Shinola, Save our Children, Idea Group, and The Wheeler Group.
The event is free, but you do need to register in advance.

January Soul Stomp — Detroit
If you’re in the need for some soul music this Saturday night is the monthly Motor City Soul Stomp at the Marble Bar.
Come out and listen and dance to the rare soul and funk music picked out by Dan Austin, Brad Hales, and Eric Aytes. There is a special guest this month is Adrian Small who has come all the way from Braunschweig, Germany.
There is no cover for Motor City Soul Stomp. It runs from 10 p.m.-2:30 a.m.

Palmer Park Winterfest & Doggie Fashion Show- Detroit
Looking for a fun family friendly event this weekend? Head over to Palmer Park for the Winterfest and Doggie Fashion Show on Sunday from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m.
There will be carriage rides, the doggie fashion show and parade, food, music, arts, and crafts (kids can make their own doggie masks to participate in the parade.)
Ice skating, skiing, and snowshoeing have been planned for the day, but I have a feeling the weather won’t be cooperating this weekend.
The doggie parade starts at 3 p.m. There is nothing cuter than dogs and kids dressed up in costumes. If you’re interested in participating register in advance.
There will be a pet food collection going on during the festivities, so don’t forget to bring some unopened and unexpired cat and dog food to donate.
The festival will be located on the south side of Palmer Park adjacent to Merrill Plaisance, which is located just north of McNichols (Six Mile Road) and just west of Woodward Avenue.
16th Annual Ferndale Blues and Music Festival- Ferndale
This weekend is the beginning of the Ferndale Blues Festival. It starts on Friday, January 27 and will continue through Monday, February 6.
The festival offers over 16 different venues throughout Ferndale and 55 music concerts throughout the nine days.
The money raised over the week will be donated to Ferndale Youth Assistance.
