It is hard to believe we are already in the middle of July, but here we are.
There are a ton of events happening this weekend, so much so that I had to add on two quick bonuses. I know I’m going to have a hard time narrowing down exactly what I want to do.
Hamlet at New Center Park
Come out to New Center Park this weekend to watch Shakespeare in Detroit perform Hamlet.
You have three chances to see Hamlet this weekend. There will be an evening performance on Friday and Saturday and a matinee performance on Sunday.
Bring your lawn chairs and blankets to sit on for the performance. There is no admission for the performances, however donations are always welcome.

25th Annual Concert of Colors
Midtown will be filled with music this weekend during the annual Concert of Colors festival. The five day festival technically starts today, but the meat and potatoes of the festival happen this weekend.
There will be three days filled with musical performances, workshops, and discussions. You can find the full schedule here.
The festival is free to attend, and there are some really great venues like Arab American National Museum, Detroit Historical Museum, Detroit Institute of Arts, Max M. & Marjorie S. Fisher Music Center, Scarab Club, and Third Men Records.
Abick’s Bar 110th Birthday Party Weekend
There is a lot of history to be shared and celebrated this weekend during Abick’s 110th birthday party. If walls could talk…
There will be drink specials Thursday and Friday. On Saturday they will have having a pig roast.
Just remember to bring your cash along, because Abick’s is cash only. Also leave the kids at home, because Abick’s is 18 and over.
Abick’s Bar is located at 3500 Gilbert Street Detroit, Michigan 48210
1st Annual Detroit Kite Festival
The time has come for the first annual Detroit Kite Festival. I for one can’t wait to see all those beautiful kites in the sky over Belle Isle. Let’s hope there’s a nice breeze.
You can find out all of the details over on the story we did about the festival.
1st Annual Detroit Festival of Books
If you are a lover of the written word, this is the event for you.
The Detroit Festival of Books is a one day event in Eastern Market’s Shed 5. The festival will feature used, rare, and unusual books. Plus local authors selling their books.
There will be food trucks if you get hungry, and Black Lotus Brewery will be bringing it’s beer truck.
The Book festival is on Sunday, July 16th, 2017
Hours: 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.
Eastern Market is located at 2934 Russell Street Detroit, Michigan 48207
