This week’s City 5 is being brought to via the Wi-Fi on the Amtrak Wolverine line on the way back from a few days in Chicago. It’s been hit or miss for the most of the trip, but I’ve powered through the frustration to bring you the fun.

Improm! 2017
Did you miss out on your high school prom? Or maybe you did go to prom but it ended up not being as magical as everyone says it will be. Maybe you just like improv shows and a great dance party afterwards.
If this sounds like you, then you should totally rock your best prom attire at The Planet Ant’s Ant Hall in Hamtramck this Friday night.
Improm! 2017 is a mix between an improv show and a fun night of dancing. The event is also a fundraiser for the 2017 Detroit Improv Festival which is just around the corner.
There will be a professional photographer so you can get that sweet photo with your prom date, and at the end of the evening they will be crowing an Improm King and Queen.
Tickets for Improm are only $10 bucks, which is a steal compared to what my prom tickets cost back in 2000.
Doors open at 7:00 p.m. – Improv show will start at 8:00 p.m. – Dance party starts at 10:00 p.m.

Detroit 67 Media Coverage: Then & Now
On Saturday morning there will be a panel discussion about the Kerner Commission (also known as the National Advisory Commission on Civil Disorder) which looked into what happened during the summer of 1967.
The panel includes Rochelle Riley, Kim Voet, Sheila Cockrel, Keith Owens, Jason Jordan, Tim Kiska and Ike McKinnon and they will be talking about how the media covered the story in 1967 verses how they would cover it now.
Pedal to Porch – Islandview
Pedal to Porch is what happens when you combine storytelling and a bike ride through a community.
On Saturday afternoon there will be a Pedal to Porch ride through the Islandview neighborhood. Riders will go from porch to porch to listen to stories from the people who live there. The story could be about the house or the neighborhood.
The ride is free, but you do need to register. If you don’t have a bike, there will be about 10 MoGo bikes available for use.
Participants will be biking between 4 to 6 miles during the ride.
The ride will be from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m.
Meet at Gabriel Richard Park at 7400 E Jefferson in Detroit.
Great Lakes Food, Art & Music Festival
This is the second year for the Great Lakes Food, Art & Music Festival located in Campus Martius. The three-day festival is not only free it is super kid friendly. Come out and play some giant lawn Yahtzee, Connect Four, and Jenga.
Word on the street is that Eddie Money will be breaking out of his locked cage at DTE Energy Music Theater to perform on Friday night.

If you’re going to the festival for the art be sure to check out Artist SinGh because he will be painting original pieces each day. Did I forget to mention he will be doing it while hanging upside down 70 feet above the ground?
There will be plenty of food choices in Cadillac Square, so bring your appetite.

Mo Pop Festival 2017
Head out to the West Riverfront Park for the Mo Pop Festival this Saturday and Sunday.
It is a mixture of live musical performances, craft bazar, food truck rally, old school arcade, and the ShipYard.
Tickets for this festival are going to cost you $125 for the weekend pass or $75 for single days. Prices for the single day passes go up to $90 the day of.
Doors open at 1:00 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday.

Motor City Soul Club: July Soul Stomp
It’s time again for the monthly Motor City Soul Club Soul Stomp.
Head out to The Marble Bar to listen to some rare soul and funk music from the 60’s and 70’s.
Dan Austin, Erica Aytes will have two special guests this month. Richie Wohlfeil of Lo & Behold! Records & Books in Hamtramck and Seattle’s own Christian Peetz, aka DJ Christian Science will be spinning records as well.
There’s no cover at the Soul Stomp and the party starts at 10:00 p.m.
