It’s that time again, time to start making plans for this weekend.
Friday is St. Patrick’s Day, so if you are planning on celebrating I suggest checking out Devon’s post over here.
Let’s get on with this week’s City 5.
2017 Downriver Indie Craft Fair – Wyandotte
I love a good craft fair, and this one looks like it’s going to be awesome. This is the fourth year for the Downriver Indie Craft Fair, which is ran by the Downriver Council of the Arts.
The two day fair will have over 50 vendors throughout three floors. Admission is $2 per person which is pretty reasonable.
The Downriver Indie Craft Fair will be held on Friday from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Saturday from 11:0o p.m. until 6:00 p.m. (Just an aside if you go on Friday be sure to check out First Friday in Wyandotte!)
The Downriver Council of the Arts is located at 81 Chestnut Street Wyandotte, Michigan 48192
Twisted Storytellers: School Days – Detroit
I’m not going to go crazy here, because I’ve already done a story about this great event.
I know for a fact that I’ll be going to this show on Friday night, because I already have my tickets. If you see me, don’t forget to say hi. Tickets are $20 in advance. You can buy them from either Chalkbeat or Secret Society of Twisted Storytellers. You can also pick up your tickets at the door for $25.
The show is on Friday, March 17 and it will start at 8:00 p.m.
The Charles H. Wright Museum is located at 315 East Warren Avenue Detroit, Michigan 48201
St. Patsy Cline Day at Ghost Light – Hamtramck
I grew up listening to Patsy Cline and I have a huge soft spot in my heart for her music.
The show will be at the Ghost Light Bar in Hamtramck. (It’s attached to the Planet Ant Hall so check and see if you can get tickets to MacDeath across the street. This is the closing weekend of that musical.)
There will be three bands performing throughout the night; Kelly Jean Caldwell, The Whiskey Charmers, and Bad Medicine.
The best part of the evening? There’s no cover. Yeah, I said that…no cover charge.
The show starts at 9:00 p.m.
The Ghost Light is located at 2314 Caniff Hamtramck, Michigan 48212
Celtic Croon & Cups- Detroit
If you are looking for a fun family friendly event on Saturday, I suggest going to Pewabic.
This event is going to be a blast. It is going to feature Pewabic’s collection of Celtic designs, Detroit Map, and “D” tiles in green. There will be tile rubbing, Celtic coloring pages, and temporary tattoos for the kids.
The event will have live music performed by Brady Flannery. There will also be a poetry reading by David Quin.
You will be able to try the Cork Town Rye from Atwater, mead from Schramms, B. Nektar, and Bee Well. Need break from imbibing? There will also be a green punch and hot tea. Oh and cookies.
Celtic Croon & Cups will be held from 12:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m.
Pewabic is located at 10125 E Jefferson Avenue Detroit, Michigan 48214
St. Patrick’s Day Square Dance – Detroit
The last time I did any square dancing was in high school. Did your high school have dance class? Ours did.
Anyway, if you are looking for something that is fun to do on Sunday night why not check out the St. Patrick’s Day Square Dance. The Detroit Square Dancing Society is holding this event at the Gaelic League Irish American Club of Detroit in Corktown.
The evening starts at 5:00 p.m with a pot luck (though I’m sure you can come later.) There is a beginners workshop that starts at 5:30 p.m, so if you’ve never squared danced before (or are just really rusty like I would be) maybe check that out.
The real square dancing starts at 6:00 p.m. and will go until 10:00 p.m.
If you’re worried that you don’t have a dance partner, you don’t need to bring one.
There is a $10 suggested donation, however no one will be turned around.
The Gaelic League Irish American Club of Detroit is located at 2068 Michigan Avenue Detroit, Michigan 48216
