Happy Thanksgiving to all of you fine folks.
Now that Turkey Day is out of the way we can get fully into the holiday season.
Are you ready to take that deep dive into the holidays? There are plenty of great things to do this weekend around the city.
Let’s get this party started.
Christmas: Impossible
This weekend is the opening weekend for the holiday show at The Planet Ant.
This year the show is called Christmas: Impossible.
Christmas: Impossible is about a fallen angel called Ole Solcheck. She is banished to Earth after she decides that the people she is suppose to be protecting would be better off dead.
This show is an adaptation from an original Planet Ant show called 25 that debuted in 2003.
This show has mature themes, so while it is a holiday show leave those kids at home.
Christmas: Impossible will have ten performances from November 24-December 16.
Tickets are $11 per person, but will be half off for the opening weekend performances. Get your tickets early because these shows do sell out.
When: Friday, November 25-Saturday, November 26 at 8:00 p.m.
Where: Planet Ant Black Box Theater 2357 Caniff Hamtramck, Michigan 48212
Small Business Saturday
There is no actual event for this. But I want to remind everyone that this Saturday is Small Business Saturday.
So go out in your neighborhood and check out those mom and pop shops for gifts, services, or food.
Silent Disco Holiday Edition
The ever popular Silent Disco will be back this Saturday evening at Beacon Park.
Not familiar with the Silent Disco? It’s where everyone wears headphones and listens to one of three different channels of iHeartRadio DJ’s spinning music.
Worried that it might be too cold to dance your booty off? Don’t fret because the party will be inside the heated Winter Lodge at Beacon Park. If it is anything like the Cadillac Lodge I’m going to guess it’s pretty sweet.
Anyway, pull out your favorite plaid flannel and get down to Beacon Park this Saturday night.
There will be food trucks, drinks, and fire pits.
When: Saturday, November 25 from 7:00 p.m.-12:00 a.m.
Where: Beacon Park 1903 Grand River Avenue Detroit, Michigan 48226 (Corner of Grand River and Cass.)
Rockabilly Resurgence II Rockabilly & Roots Festival
Come out to PJ’s Lager House on Saturday night to check out some great Rockabilly bands and live burlesque.
There is a pretty great line up of live rockabilly and roots music. The line up includes The Hi-Views, Death by Rodeo, Parking Lots, The Codgers, and Vernon David.
As for the burlesque performers Sophia Von Stardust and Lushes Lamoan will be performing.
MC Sheldon Kay will also be doing a live jam session at the end of the evening.
There is a $10 cover at the door, but you can get discounted tickets online for $7.
When: Saturday, November 25 from 8:00 p.m.-2:00 a.m.
Where: PJ’s Lager House 1254 Michigan Avenue Detroit, MI 48226
Books For you: A Blackbird Literacy Popup
Come out to Sister Pie on Sunday for the Blackbird Literacy Popup. This is a one day only event.
Blackbird Literacy will be giving out free books in topics like science, art, history, music and the African American experience. They will have books for a variety of reading levels.
They will also be accepting quality book donations.
When: Sunday, November 26 from 12:00 p.m.-2:00 p.m.
Where: Sister Pie 8066 Kercheval Street Detroit, Michigan 48214
Bonus
Motor City Soul Club: November Soul Stomp
Come out to the Marble Bar and dance off those extra Thanksgiving calories at the November Soul Stomp.
This month DJ’s Brad Hales, Dan Austin and Erica Aytes will be joined by special guest Nick Soule.
Let’s here it for no cover, that way you can still get your Great Aunt Olga a gift.
When: Saturday, November 25 from 10:00 p.m.-2:00 a.m.
Where: Marble Bar 1501 Holden St, Detroit, Michigan 48208
