It’s time again to get our weekend plans nailed down. We’ve got a few fundraisers, a book launch, board games, and finally some delicious dumplings.
Enjoy your weekend!
Dawn of Detroit Book Launch
Source Booksellers will be hosting Dr. Tiya Miles as she discusses her new book Dawn of Detroit: A Chronicle of Slavery and Freedom in the City of the Straits.
The book is about a pretty heavy but important and interesting topic, as it discusses the history of slavery in Detroit when it was just a frontier outpost.

Source Booksellers is located at 4240 Cass Avenue Suite 105, Detroit, Michigan 48201
13th Annual Detroit Uncorked
The 13th Annual Detroit Uncorked event will be this Friday evening.
Proceeds from the event will go towards Gleaners Community Food Bank. Every dollar donated will be able to provide three meals to those who need it.
This event is one of Southeastern Michigan’s largest wine tasting events and will have more than 250 wines from Michigan, California, Pacific Northwest, and around the world.
If you’re not a fan of wine but still want to support Gleaners, you are in luck because there will be craft beer and spirits.
There will be a strolling dinner that will compliment the wines.
Tickets are $65 for general admission or $130 for VIP tickets.
When: Friday, October 6 from 6:30 p.m.-9:30 p.m.
Detroit Uncorked will take place at Gleaners Community Food Bank of Southeastern Michigan which is located at 2131 Beaufait Street Detroit, MI 48207
Detroit Games Day
My husband and I are big fans of board games, so when I saw this event was happening this weekend I got really excited.
The Loaded Die, The Vault of Midnight, Brew Detroit and Hero Or Villain Van are partnering to bring you all a day of board games this Saturday.
When I say a day of, I mean it because this will be 15 hours of board games at Brew Detroit.
Besides the competitive nature of board games there will be swag bags for people who pre-register, raffle with over $1,000 in prizes, and a Brew Detroit pint glass.
Tickets are $28 per person. You can purchase tickets online or in person at The Loaded Die or The Vault of Midnight.
When: Saturday, October 7 from 11:00 a.m.-2:00 a.m.
Brew Detroit is located at 1401 Abbott Street Detroit, Michigan 48216
Raku Party
This Saturday is Pewabic’s fall fundraiser for their education studio. Every year they host a Raku Party.
There is something magical about watching people do raku.
Those who sign up for the Raku Party will be able to select and glaze a bisque-fired pot. It will then be fired in actual fire. The final result will be a one of a kind piece with a metallic finish.
Space is limited, but there are still some openings. If you want a really cool experience I suggest signing up ASAP. You can choose one vessel for $65 or two for $95.
You can register online or over the phone at 313-626-2062
When: Saturday, October 7 from 10:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m.
Pewabic is located at 10125 E Jefferson Avenue Detroit, Michigan 48214
