The kids are going back to school this week, so I guess summer is unofficially over this weekend.

Detroit Jazz Fest
When I think of Labor Day weekend in Detroit the first thing that I think of is the Detroit Jazz Festival. For four days Campus Martius and Hart Plaza will be filled with jazz music.

Hours Friday: 6:30 p.m. -1:30 a.m. Saturday: 12 p.m.-1:30 a.m. Sunday: 12 p.m.-1:30 a.m. Monday: 1-7:45 p.m.
Hamtramck Labor Day Festival
The people of Hamtramck know how to party. So if you are looking for something fun to do this weekend I suggest you head to the 37th Hamtramck Labor Day Festival.
Like in years past there will be the annual yacht race down Jos. Compau, the Polish Day Parade, two stages for live music and so much more.
I’m already dreaming of the pierogi.
The festival will be held Saturday through Monday from 12 p.m. until 10 p.m.
Gaelic League Fundraising Brunch
We’re moving from Poland over to Ireland for an afternoon of brunch at the Gaelic League Irish American Club of Detroit.
Come out and enjoy some great food, drink specials and live music all while doing some good for this organization.
Brunch is $15 for members, $20 for nonmembers, and kids are $7.

Bourbon Party
I love a good bourbon, so when I saw that there was a release party for Detroit City Distillery’s Butcher’s Cut Bourbon I had to add it to this list.
There will be a pig roast to go along with all of those bourbon cocktails.
Texture and Anthony Parasole will be spinning some house music.
Hours: 7 p.m.-2 a.m.

Masonic Temple Tour
If you have never been inside The Detroit Masonic Temple, you need to do yourself a favor and check out this tour on Sunday afternoon.
The sheer amount of work that Corrado Parducci did is astounding.
It is 2 1/2 hours long and it will take your though the 14 story neo-Gothic building.
You must buy your tickets before the tour, they are $15 per person.
The tour will start at 3 p.m.

P.S. — If you can’t make it to this weekend’s tour you should check out the Behind the Scenes tour they are offering for Friday, September 15. It’s more money, but you get to see a ton of stuff that you can’t normally see. I’m only putting this here now, because I have a feeling the tour will be sold out by the time I do that week’s City 5.
