The City 5 is here again, just in time to set you up nicely for this very holiday-ish weekend. Check this list out to help you get your shopping done in style, celebrate the opening of a great new restaurant, or do a good deed by having a good time at one of the fundraiser events. We’ve put together a great list this week that will take you right through Sunday. Click the links for more details!
Monster Drawing Rally – December 12th
Described as “part performance, part laboratory, part art bazaar” the rally will be an all out event at the MOCAD where you can watch your favorite local artists (about 90 total) create original drawings. When completed they are available for purchase for $40 each (it’s also a fundraiser for the MOCAD). In the meantime a DJ will be spinning music for dancing. There will be refreshments and food trucks on site as well.
Holiday Merriment & Makers Market – December 12th
This event looks like a great way to both have fun and get your shopping done at the same time. The market features handmade and edible goods from over 60 Detroit businesses at the collaborative work and business space of Ponyride in Corktown. The event is 5 – 10, so grab friends, family, and make a night of it. Oh yeah, and #hotpinkfriday -it’s a thing.
Third Annual Cheers for Children – December 13th
Your attendance or sponsorship at this event benefits the Children’s Hospital of Michigan Foundation’s Annual Princesses and Superheroes party and Sibling Bereavement Camp for terminally ill children and their families. If that doesn’t warm your heart this holiday season, I don’t know what will. Tickets to the event are 99.00 or you can make a donation on the ticket site for $25 if you’d like to help the cause. The event includes a strolling dinner, drinks, valet, and live entertainment. Cocktail attire is required.
The Rub Down – December 13th
This week we wrote a post about Rubbed, a new sandwich and charcuterie shop in Corktown, which will make you want to go this party. On Saturday night, they are having a bash for their grand opening. $20.00 gets you an “impressive array of charcuterie and strolling appetizers” all night long. Cash bar available, begins at 7:00 p.m. Boom.
Holiday Sunday Street Market – December 14th
If you haven’t had enough holiday cheer by Sunday, or if you need to get more shopping done, or perhaps a Christmas tree then check out the Holiday Sunday Market at Eastern Market in Shed 3 from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. It’s also rumored that a big fella in a red suit with a white beard will be there.
