When it comes to servicing refugees, Freedom House is a special place in our country. Freedom House is a local organization that provides temporary housing for people who are seeking asylum from persecution located in Southwest Detroit.
Earlier this year news broke that the Department of Housing and Urban Development would not be renewing the grants needed to keep Freedom House operating.
The funding will be for 2017/2018 fiscal year. Funding beyond 2018 is not guaranteed, so Freedom House is hoping to reconfigure their finances and decrease the need for money from the government.
After the news broke that the organization would not be getting the grant money they started fundraising. In that short time Freedom House had raised $$329,943 from donations, fundraisers, and appeals.
According to Freedom House, there will be a community celebration in the near future to say “thank you” to everyone who has helped keep Freedom House open and funded. We will be sure to let you know when that is, because this will be a wonderful event.
