If you’ve kept a keen eye around Detroit, you might have noticed the orange metal “Man in the City” sculptures around town.
You can find them (usually up high) on various buildings around town such as the Detroit Opera House and the Park Shelton.
The project that got a start here in Detroit in 2008 is described as such by it’s creator, sculptor John Sauve:
“The Man in the City Project creates a metaphor for life that transforms the skyline and encourages people to look around. In the discovery process one becomes aware of their own sense of place within the City.”
It’s made appearances outside of our region, such as in New York City on their Highline, and now, floating down the Chicago River past Trump Tower. Here’s a short video from the Chicago Tribune, talking about how the idea a floating man in the city came up with the late owner of the Jefferson Beach Yacht Sales three years ago.
