A business with a name that has gotten people talking, Detroit Blows, has found a spot in the Z garage on Library Street.
Detroit Blows will be a blow-dry salon. A blow out is less expensive and faster way to getting a professionally styled look, especially if you don’t necessarily need a haircut.
Additionally, they plan to offer express mani and pedis and have a makeup station.
The location is on the same block as Vicente’s Cuban Cuisine, the Vault of Midnight comic book shop and CBI Cyber Security.
Founded by native Detroiters Nia Batts and Katy Cockrel, earlier this year they received a $20,000 Motor City Match grant to help put together their 2,000+ square foot place. They’re also semifinalists for the Hatch Detroit competition. That is a vote-driven award of $50,000 to the winner.
The retail shop portion of their space will have a rotating lineup of socially conscious brands, and one dollar of every blowout service will be used to support Detroit-based female entrepreneurs and women entering and re-entering the workforce.
They’re aiming to open in October of 2017.
