Detroit’s top soccer team is getting a sponsorship lift — or should I say, Lyft?
The Detroit City Football Club (known as DCFC) announced Wednesday that the ridesharing company Lyft has become their title sponsor for the 2018 season, as well as their official rideshare partner. It’s Lyft’s first sports team jersey sponsorship.
The Lyft logo will appear on the front of all jerseys worn by Detroit City FC players in 2018 and a designated Lyft drop-off and pickup zone will be established at Keyworth Stadium in Hamtramck.
The Lyft pickup spot will be located at the corner of Goodson Street and Gallagher Avenue.
“It means a lot to our club to have a title partner like Lyft,” said Detroit City FC co-owner Sean Mann in a statement. “Since our beginning, we have oriented our club to be rooted in the community and strived to connect people through soccer. Lyft shares the values of our club, and helps us address the limited parking around Keyworth Stadium, which is nestled in the middle of Michigan’s densest community.”
Additionally, Lyft will serve as the official sponsor of Detroit City FC’s Neighborhood Champion program, which is a season-long initiative designed to grow the sport of soccer in Detroit by bringing residents to DCFC matches. In partnership with Lyft, Detroit City FC will provide transportation, tickets, and co-branded giveaways to community members of select Detroit neighborhood groups for certain home matches.
DCFC and Lyft will also host a youth soccer clinic at Keyworth Stadium this summer.
Not only that, but if you take a Lyft in you’ll get additional benefits including premium entry to Keyworth Stadium at The Lyft Gate. And to top it off? $1 off drinks at Keyworth Stadium before kickoff.
Two Cents: This could be a really smart move for Lyft, as although the big four sports teams draw large crowds, DCFC draws not only a sizable crowd but a lot of millennial attendees. Personally, I’ve been to a couple of DCFC games through Lyft because parking in Hamtramck is tight — and there are tasty adult beverages to be had at Keyworth.
