The Detroit Design Festival is a five-day festival will go through eight different neighborhoods throughout Detroit.
The festival aims to show how design in our neighborhoods, workplaces, and how the products and services we use everyday can impact the way society functions and the way people experience the world around them.
The dates for the seventh annual Detroit Design Festival (DDF) have been announced and this year it will be September 26-30. The DDF is being hosted by the economic development organization Detroit Creative Corridor Center (DC3).
The theme for DDF this year and it is “Design Is Everywhere.” The theme is honoring Detroit’s designation as a United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) City of Design. Detroit is currently the only city in the United States that is a City of Design.
“Because of the UNESCO designation people are really excited to see what happens next. A big part of what we’re doing this year is hoping to build up that co-creative vision for what the city of design means, what it stands for, and what the economic development strategy should be to really create impact in our community,” said the Executive Director of DC3 Olga Stella. “So we think that the Design Is Everywhere theme is a great way to tie in all of the things that came out of that process throughout the year. It’s a great opportunity for people to give a voice to their ideas about what it means for designs to be this driver in our present and future.”
This year festival goers will be able to check out the Design Village, Eastern Market After Dark, Light Up Livernois, and Youth Day. There will be two additional programs on the line up this year, Designer Putt Putt and Urban Furniture.
