It’s good to see good works in Detroit get good press.

Rebel Nell is a jewelry maker based in the city of Detroit. They’re turning graffiti chips into new beautiful works of art. But there’s more to the story.

And full disclosure — I own a couple pairs of Rebel Nell cufflinks.

Why? It’s about a lot more than just the art. The program, founded by former big league attorney Amy Peterson, employs women who have run into barriers finding work.

For those who work at Rebel Nell, it’s not just about a job, it’s really about a full-service educational hug.

Employees learn financial management, life wellness and entrepreneurship, as well as get a paycheck. They teach people as well as employ them so there are all the tools to go on to a new chapter of their lives.

Below is the piece that aired Sunday night on NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt. If it doesn’t play, go here. And if you want to know more about Rebel Nell, here’s their website and their Instagram.
