It was only a matter of time until the some of the major four sports teams started wearing corporate sponsor logos on their jerseys beyond the maker of the clothing, and Detroit has joined the likes of Brooklyn, Cleveland, Toronto and others by signing a sponsorship deal.
The Detroit Pistons signed a deal with Flagstar Bank for an undisclosed amount of money to wear their logo on the right chest of their new Nike jerseys, as well as advertise on local radio and in the new Little Caesars Arena.
A decision by the National Basketball Association’s Board of Governors in 2016 paved the way for this move.
The new Nike Vapor System jerseys for the Pistons were unveiled earlier today. The design is supposed to breathe better and be lighter weight.
Other NBA teams and their jersey sponsors include:
- Boston Celtics – General Electric
- Brooklyn Nets – Infor
- Cleveland Cavaliers – Goodyear
- Minnesota Timberwolves – Fitbit
- Orlando Magic – Disney
- Philadelphia 76ers – StubHub
- Sacramento Kings – Blue Diamond Almonds
- Toronto Raptors – Sun Life
- Utah Jazz – 5 for the Fight
What do you think – are you good with corporate logos on NBA jerseys, or is it over the line?
