Detroit Public Television (DPTV) has just announced a brand new 24-hour kid’s channel that will debut on Monday, January 16. This is the only free channel dedicated to 24/7 PBS KIDS programing.
PBS Kids 24/7 will be on channel 56.2 over the air. With this new channel they have had to move the Create channel to 56.3 and the World Channel over to channel 56.4.
Kids and adults will be able to stream the new 24/7 channel on mobile devices and tables from the pbskids.org website or the PBS KIDS video app.
Eventually, you will also be able to stream content on over-the-top platforms such as Roku, Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV, Android TV, Xbox One and Chromecast.
The new channel will feature the current PBS line up like Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood, Odd Squad, Wild Kratts, Super WHY!, Dinosaur Train, Splash and Bubbles, Nature Cat, Peg + Cat, and Ready Jet Go! You will also be able to find some of the older shows on the station like Clifford, Arthur, Bob The Builder, and Caillou. For those parents who are not a fan of Caillou, it comes on at noon. So maybe that is music time.
This is the initial launch, and DPTV plans to expand and provide integrated games for kids to play. Children will be able to toggle between a PBS KIDS show and an educational activity.
If you’re wondering if you need to learn this brand new schedule overnight, you will still be able to tune into the main DPTV (56.1) channel. They will continue broadcasting the current line-up of PBS KIDS shows from 7:00 a.m until 5:00 p.m.
My take: I have always been a fan of Detroit Public Television (DPTV). When I was growing up I remember watching Mister Rogers Neighborhood and Sesame Street. Now that I’m older, DPTV is still on my television more than any other channel. I have a toddler so when we do screen time for him I put on DPTV. His favorite shows are Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood, Dinosaur Train, Sesame Street, and Peg + Cat.
