If you’ve driven down Cass over by The Peterboro and Canine to 5, you might have noticed the Detroit location of 8 Degrees Plato.
And if you wander in, you’ll see one heck of a place. We profiled the combination bar and store when it opened, and were impressed with 8 Degrees Plato back in 2015.
The space is beautiful. Clean cut and ripe with the smell of saw dust, but still warm and inviting. It’s elegant but not pretentious. It feels like the quintessential neighborhood shop from before the big box retail invasion.
So it’s little surprise to see the popular store get nominated for USA Today’s 10 Best Beer Bars in America. As of this writing, they’re sitting at number 3, ahead of the other Michigan entrant, the HopCat Grand Rapids location.
The rest of the cities with entrants (some multiple) include Des Moines, IA; Lisle, Ill; Portland, Oregon; Richmond, VA; St. Paul, Minn; New Orleans, Louisiana; and Eugene, Oregon.
