Detroit’s RiverWalk has landed another plaudit – this time from an international news source.
The Guardian, based in the United Kingdom, highlighted Detroit’s waterfront walkway as one of the six best city walks in the world, as told by readers.
A partial quote from Daniel Gilmartin:
A walk along the downtown waterfront shows many facets of urban space and life. Along the water is a mix of renovated spaces and outdated factories built at the height of the industrial era. The contrast opens the mind to the challenges and changes in cities. A block off the water is the entrance into the thriving downtown that was thought to be dead just a decade ago. Excitement and energy are all around.
There have been a lot of developments as of late on the riverfront. Recently, the Detroit Riverfront Conservancy exceeded their fundraising goal by $23 million for future expansions and improvements.
Other cities on the list include Portland, Oregon; Dublin, Ireland; London, UK; Istanbul, Turkey; and Plovdiv, Bulgaria. Check them all out here.
